We have moved away from handwriting, specifically personal correspondence, an intimate and age old practice of vast expression and connection, unique like a fingerprint, to an impersonal stream of helvetica and autocorrect . Actual ‘analog’ or handwritten love letters, have been replaced with cartoon emoticons :( and abbreviations to fit into an ever busier world.
In an effort to revive the tradition of the love letter, and slow down and enjoy the moment, we will encourage and offer guidance to fellow burners to come to our lounge and write or draw a letter to a lover, friend, kid, parent, lost-one, stranger, themselves, even to burning man itself; whoever they feel might need it the most. Taking this time is a great opportunity to awaken the writer within and scribe your heart song onto paper.
Expressive writing has been shown to have a direct link with happiness and improved mood. Simply writing down how you feel about things can help you see your thoughts better, clear up your emotions and have an overall significant therapeutic effect.
We will provide the tools and forum for participants to craft their messages. Upon returning to the default world, we will collect all of the completed artwork, and compile it into a coffee table book called ‘’Letters of Love”; heartfelt reading epitomizing the unsurpassed creativity of the collective mind unseen anywhere else. Additionally, this will be made available as an ebook to share in the digital world :). We hope this project will extend beyond Burning Man and reach all of those who have never attended or may have a particular bias towards this indescribable event, and create a global awareness of the potential that exists within humanity and arises from community collaboration as experienced at events such as Burning Man.
Why only use your fingertips and thumbs to type when you are given two whole hands to create beautiful art? Let Analog·Pegasus take you out of the Digital Age and back to the time of the handwritten letter. Ideally this will serve as a chronicle for future generations of the mysterious mirage-like oasis called Black Rock City.
